The Dangers of Trans Fat
68Once upon a time, far before the existence of civilization and mass production of food, people had to hunt and gather for food. All the food were at their best - natural state.
At present, all you see is junk/processed food being sold everywhere. They contain trans fatty acid which is virtually a poison to your body.
Trans fat is formed by hardening vegetable oils into shortening or margarine. It is also found in fried foods like french fries, fried chicken, crackers and doughnuts. Doughnuts contain approximately 40 percent trans fat, french fries 40 percent and popular cookies and crackers range from 30 percent to 50 percent.
Trans fat increases LDL (Low density lipoprotein, the "bad" cholesterol) and lowers HDL (High density lipoprotein, the "good" cholesterol). It is primarily associated with coronary heart disease. It is also known to cause type 2 diabetes, major clogging of arteries and other serious health problems.
Trans fat is correlated with:
- Coronary Heart Diseases
- Alzheimer's Disease
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Obesity
Despite the dangers of trans fat, food companies use it instead of oil as it is more cost efficient, extends storage life of products and improves flavor and texture.
Other than fried foods and bakery items, other processed foods such as cereals or frozen pizza can also contain trans fat. Look at the ingredient label for hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil.
If you don't want to get all that diseases, then eliminate trans fat from your diet.Common foods high in trans fat are:
- French Fries
- Potato Chips
- Pastries
- Cookies
- Margarine
- Doughnuts
- Vegetable Shortening
After eliminating trans fat from your diet, you will definitely feel better, and probably lose some weight. Now lets finish this with a list of healthy foods to eat:
- Vegetables: Lettuce, bok choy, asparagus, spinach.
- Fruits: Apple, banana, berries, orange.
- Meat: Grass-fed beef, organic meats.
- Oil: Olive oil, coconut oil, ghee.
Healthy eating is not some diet, but a lifestyle. See you healthier next time!
